He grunted and kicked off his boots before resuming his earlier position laying on the bed. There was a good amount of space between us and neither of us touched the other. I didn’t speak anymore but we just stared as my eyes grew heavy and I drifted off to sleep. I was grateful, although I knew he’d done all of this out of pity because of my breakdown but I’d take it nonetheless. When I woke up the bed was empty and I was alone. That was fine, because for the first time I had a little bit of hope that things would get at least a marginal bit better… as long as he hadn’t lied to me last night.
Chapter 3
Lucifer stayed true to his word as the following day Bull swaggered into my room – not bothering to knock – and sat with me for about two hours. We talked about everything and nothing and he didn’t seemed bothered by having to be with me. He made jokes and asked me questions about myself. I had asked for company with meals and Bull mainly accompanied me, even drunk. To be honest I enjoyed those visits most because he was such a goofball while intoxicated. I had told him about me wanting to design clothes and in his drunken stupor said he was good at everything. We set a wager that he would design something and I would make it and he’d have to wear it. I even made him sign a paper so that was going to happen in the foreseeable future. It may not be right, but it was fun as hell that I only let him work on the design while drunk. So far, I’m going to love every second of watching him in his masterpiece.
I looked at the time, 12:30 that meant that Bull should be here shortly with lunch. I smiled to myself, things weren’t perfect not by a long shot but they were definitely better. When the door opened and I turned the smile of my face fell. Lucifer came into the room holding two sandwiches and glasses. He frowned when he noticed my demeanor changed but didn’t say anything. He handed me a sandwich and a drink and took a seat in the chair he’d brought in here. He began eating his sandwich and I followed suit. Not to sound ungrateful or anything but I preferred Bull’s company. He actually acted as such while when Lucifer is here he didn’t say anything, just sat in the room with me. I would have to do a ton of talking just to fill the silence and I honestly believed he didn’t even listen to anything I said.
When he was done he wiped his mouth and put down his plate. “Bull went on a run; he’ll be gone about two weeks or so.” He told me.
I felt the sadness down to my bones that was going to suck. “Oh, ok.” I said sadly.
He grunted. “I apologize I am not as fun as Bull, but I’ll keep my word to you…” he eyed me warily. “Unless you’d rather I didn’t.” he finished.
I shrugged. “No, I still want company. I’ll just miss him a bit is all… he’s grown on me a bit ya know?” He stood abruptly and gathered our stuff without looking at me or offering another word. I don’t know what bug is up his butt but I’m not going to press my luck.
I was busy sketching my life away in my pad. Somehow I guess by being stuck in here my inspiration finally began to flow. I had two new dresses done and I was on a rampage. I was so focused on what I was doing that I didn’t hear the door open. “What’s that?” a raspy voice asked.
I shrieked in shock and gripped my chest to slow my rapid heartbeats. “Dear god, you scared the ever loving crap out of me. I didn’t even hear you come in.” I said trying to calm my breaths.
He gave me a partial smile, a look I’d never seen on him. “My bad, now what you doing there?” he asked putting down a plate of spaghetti for me.
“Working.” I told him as I eyed the plate wearily. The scent hit my nose and I cringed, they called this spaghetti?
“What’s wrong?” he asked searching my face.
“Nothing… I mean well this is my favorite meal and this is not the good stuff. I can tell by the smell of the sauce.” I confessed.
“Ah, the Italian in you I guess.”
I shrugged. “Possibly.”
“Now what’s that?” he asked gesturing to my sketch book as he got comfortable in the chair.
I instantly grew embarrassed for some reason. “I want to be a clothes designer. I’ve made a ton of stuff you’ve actually seen me in some but I’m working on something new and different. I can only make the designs now though which is bugging me.” I told him as I picked up the food and began eating.
“Why?” he asked.
I shrugged and talked over a mouthful of food. “I don’t have what I need to actually make the designs. I’d need a bunch of materials and things to be able to actually create them the sketch pad is just the beginning.”
He nodded and kept eating but didn’t speak anymore and we ate together in a comfortable silence. When we were done as usual he collected our plates and went to leave. Before he walked out the room he turned and looked me dead in the eye. “Make a list of everything you need… everything and I’ll get it in the morning.” He didn’t wait for a response and left. I stared after him with my mouth hanging open and my eyes wide. He wouldn’t… would he?
He walked out of the room and as it resonated in my head what this could mean I felt instantly giddy. I jumped up and started doing the running man with joy. I was having the time of my life when I heard a throat clear and I hopped about ten feet in the air. I spun on my heels to see Lucifer standing at the door with a full-blown smile on his face.
“How the heck do you do that?” I asked him.
His smile widened. “Please… don’t stop on my account.” He said.
I blushed hard. “Stop being an eavesdropper!” I told him as I made my way over to him and swatted at his chest.
He chuckled and when I went to do it again he gripped my wrist mid swing and pulled me close. “Stop beating on me girl.” He said and the amusement was clearly written on his face.
I groaned. “Pretend you didn’t see that?” I offered.
He shook his head. “Not a chance.” He reassured me.
I stepped until we were almost touching. “You’ve better… or else.” I threatened.
His eyebrow arched and he leaned closer. “Or else what?” he whispered.
Oh. So he thought I was a weakling did he? I’d show him. I smiled sweetly and in a quick move I took a step back and swiped my foot to knock him down. Before I could make contact he swooped down and gripped my leg pulling it up. I growled and wrapped an arm around him for balance and locked the leg he was holding around his hip. I used it to anchor me up and tried to kick him in his shin. He moved his leg back and his smile widened. His free hand wrapped around me and hauled me off my foot and I instinctively locked my other leg around him. He walked to the bed and dropped down on his back with me on top of him.
“What were you about to do?” he asked before descending onto me.
I thrashed, kicked, swung, and screamed wildly as he tickled me. “Pleaseeeeeeee stop.” I said.
He didn’t let up and continued to tickle me relentlessly. “Say Lucifer please.”
I refused to say his name and my giggles turned into giggling hiccups. I didn’t want to cave but as I started gasping for breath and my cheeks were red I had no choice. “Please Luciferrrrrrr.” I spouted.
He let up and stared at me with a triumphant grin. “How many times do I have to tell you that I’m the boss?” he asked.
I rolled my eyes and rolled off of him landing unceremoniously on my back. I heaved in deep breaths waiting for the residual laughter to fade. “I only said that for your pride.”
He sat up and leaned forward placing his elbows on his knees and looked over to me with a cocked eyebrow. “Is that so?” he drawled and I nodded. He chuckled softly and it was then I realized this is the first time I’ve seen him smile. He was playful and nice… human even. Seeing him sitting here without his usual death glare and stubborn demeanor I had the opportunity to really appreciate how he looked. Of course, I’ve noticed his attractiveness but it was always severely overshadowed with his harshness. Sure, I’m like any other hot blooded female, but to me the ugliness on the inside always overshadowed whatever shows on the out. He licked his lips a
nd I felt butterflies in my tummy as I just continued to stare at him like a weirdo.
“Were you serious about getting the stuff… you know for my designs?” I asked shyly.
His eyes flickered down to my heaving chest briefly and I followed his gaze. The swells of my breast were proudly on display at the top of my shirt. When I looked back at him, his eyes were back on me but there was a storm brewing in them. He nodded slowly. “I don’t lie.” He got up and sauntered to the door. “Have that list ready for me in the morning.” He gathered our stuff and left the room without another peep. I watched after him panting for breath, and it wasn’t from the laughing fit anymore.
I delivered my huge list of must haves to him in the morning. He read it over in silence as he ate and grunted. He didn’t utter a word, as expected. I guess the brief glimpse he’d shown me last night was a once in a lifetime gig. It was late afternoon when there was a knock on the door and he brought in a ton of stuff. I mean like triple what I asked for. I couldn’t say anything and I barely managed to croak out a thank you. He nodded stiffly and left just the same as he arrived. I chose to ignore his behavior and went straight to work. I was so excited to bring my sketches to life; this was one of my favorite parts. No matter what I draw, as I’m putting the fabrics together my vision always changes. When you see it, and can feel it, when it’s truly in front of you is when you could really perfect it. Sometimes, things don’t look quit as you expected in real life as it does on paper… hence why I enjoyed the entire process.
In only two weeks I’d had three dresses and two shirt and pant outfits together. When I looked at the creations that I’d put together I frowned. Don’t get me wrong, I was pleased… more than pleased. They were sexier, different than what I was used to and that was exactly what I was aiming for… however, I noticed the leather, the style. It was then that it dawned on me that the inspiration behind my pieces was the club. They were outfits I could envision the girls who Bull and Lucifer would go for would wear. They would look sexy and amazing in it. I looked at myself in the mirror… brown hair, not exactly straight but not nicely wavy either that fell to the middle of my back. Hazel plain eyes and pink lips that I always thought were a bit plump. My nose I felt was slightly too pointy. My skin was on the pale side, and unlike most women in my family – at least what I’ve seen in pictures – I didn’t have the slim physique. I had a little more chest and hips than I’d have liked. I was 5’4 and around 140 pounds. I scoffed, not only was I nowhere near as glamourous as I would assume Lucifer would be into, but I don’t have the confidence to even wear those clothes. I’d probably look completely ridiculous. I sighed and locked the pieces away.
Bull was back and had come to have lunch with me. I waited until a comfortable silence settled over us to broach the subject. “So, is there anything else I can do around here?” I asked.
He paused mid bite and stared at me. “What do you mean?” he asked.
I shrugged. “I appreciate you guys coming up here and hanging with me and all but can I possibly get out of this room?” I asked.
He sighed. “Listen, I would love to let you run free to pick flowers and chase rainbows and all that frilly shit…” I rolled my eyes, “but this is bosses orders ma’am. I aint got no say on this. You need’a talk to prez babe. I can make myself unavailable for dinner if you wanna have him tonight.” He wiggled his eyebrows, “if you know what I mean.”
I groaned. “I do not want him like that; I don’t want anyone like that.”
Bull’s eyes narrowed. “Are you sure about that? I was pretty sure that he was getting inside that sweet wet pussy, that’s why he was keeping you all locked up in here all to himself. I mean, he’d trust me. He’s my best friend I’d never touch his bitch.”
I cringed. “Seriously? You couldn’t have been more… I don’t know…” I trailed off.
He laughed. “Prudish? No babe, that’s how I talk. And how the fuck you think you going to get out of this room if you can’t take that? You’d hear and see a helluva lot worse downstairs with everyone. It might be a good idea that you stay up here.”
I folded my arms. “I’m no prude; I’m just not used to being so graphic. I will be just fine down there, thank you very much.”
He shook his head and stood. “Sure, babe. Whatever you say. I’ll make sure Lucifer has dinner with you tonight; you might do better in convincing him. Word of advice, don’t cringe at the word fucking.”
I growled as he left and I heard his laughter in the hallway. Why did they think I was some big joke?!
That night, as promised Bull ensured that Lucifer joined me for dinner. I had built this long speech in my head of why he should let me out the room. When the time came however, I froze and clammed up. I didn’t want to be rejected or laughed at again. It wasn’t until I was halfway through the food and was insanely tired of these bland meals that I finally spoke up. I told him exactly what I was thinking and demanded that he let me cook something decent. Even if not for the club, at least for myself. He didn’t respond right away, and I didn’t think he would… until when he was walking out of the door. He said he’d come get me tomorrow evening so that I can cook. My mouth dropped to the floor and I stood there stock still minutes after he’d left the room thinking I’d lost my mind and I heard him wrong.
Low and behold, he came for me the next day. Didn’t speak a peep to me either, just motioned for me to follow him to the kitchen. There were only a handful of girls littered around and they cast brief glances at us but only for a split second as we walked through. He led me into the kitchen and there were two girls in there once again. Lucifer cleared his throat, and they spun around. “She’s cooking tonight.” He said motioning to me.
One girls hands flew to her hips and her eyes narrowed at me. “Who is she?” she asked.
Lucifer grunted and he glared at her. “None of your fucking business now beat it.” He said with a jerk of his thumb.
Her eyes flew to him but he’d already turned around walking to the table to take a seat. I watched as she fixed her breast, pushing them up and puckered her lips in a sultry way. She walked over to him adding a little sway to her hips, while his gaze remained down to his phone. Her hand glided to his shoulder and she bent down pressing her breast against his back, her hand roaming down to his chest. Her gaze flickered up to me for a minute and she sent me a sinister smile before returning her attention to him. I couldn’t explain it, and I didn’t want to believe it but pure hot rage filled me. I was angry and jealous. I had to use all of my strength to keep my face impassive. I took a glance at the other girl in the room and she was watching the show with a bored look on her face.
“Since I’m off tonight, how about we get off before the party starts? We won’t have to wait until later…” she began and his hand moved quickly gripping her wrist. She cried out as if in pain, but I think it was more shock. He didn’t move his gaze from his phone but his voice was cold. Cold and so fucking scary I felt shivers go down my spine when he spoke.
“Didn’t I say to get the fuck out? Do I have to put you out?” her eyes flashed with fear and when he released her she shrunk back and ran out of the room. I looked at him, stared and I couldn’t move. I didn’t think he would hurt a girl, could I have been wrong? I mean as many times as I’ve hit him in anger and ran off my mouth, would he hurt me if I angered him too far? I was suddenly not as comfortable around him as I once was. His head still hadn’t moved but he spoke up, some of the coldness from a minute ago had seeped away. “Why you staring at me girl?” he asked.
I instantly looked away towards the stove. My mouth opened and closed several times before I just let out a sigh and decided not to answer him. I turned to the other girl in the room and she gave me a small smile. She walked over to me and extended her hand. “I’m Nettie.” She said in greeting.
I smiled. “Abelie, but you can call me Abee.” I felt a little nostalgic at saying that. It’s been weeks since I’ve seen let alone spoke to anyone I considered a
friend or family. Bull was becoming a friend but not just quite.
I looked around the room and noticed that Lucifer was watching us, better yet watching Nettie. His eyes narrowed and watched her untrustingly and I shivered. “What do we have to work with in here?” I asked.
We started scanning the cabinets and I sighed, we definitely would need to gather some more seasonings and such to make some real food in here. I took the lead on cooking and Nettie and I chatted a ton. She was in awe of my cooking and informed me that Pearl – the girl who just got the boot – usually did the cooking and it was never like this. I only laughed because I’ve also been eating the food while edible, not really good. I made some steaks, I sautéed a ton of onions, mushrooms, and peppers on the side to be added based on preference, with jerk roasted potatoes, and broccoli with cheese on the side, again for those who wanted.
Nettie made a small plate with just about a bite of everything when we were done as did I to taste it. She moaned with pleasure as she ate and I felt extremely proud. Lucifer sat in the kitchen silently with us the entire time, I was telling Nettie about the new designs I made when I felt heat at my back. I turned my head and Lucifer was standing behind me, peaking over my shoulder. He looked at my plate and he licked his lips. He caught my eyes and nodded towards the plate, “what’s that?” he asked.
I frowned. “You’ve been in here this whole time and you don’t know?” I asked.
He shrugged. “I wasn’t really paying attention; can I have some?” he asked.
His scent engulfed me, smoke, leather, and cologne… the combination was borderline deadly and I was suddenly grateful at the distance he kept on his visits. I’d probably go mad having to sit smelling him for however long it took to eat. He didn’t move and I turned around to face him. His eyes stayed transfixed on my face but he didn’t make a move for the plate. “You want some?” I asked to be sure. He nodded not breaking his gaze. Confused, I picked at the small piece of steak on my plate and held the fork up. I thought he’d take it from me but instead he leaned in and plucked it off the fork with his mouth. My legs trembled and I felt a twist in my stomach that was so hot.
